And the new manager is.......

The word seems to be that the head coach will be named as Nélson Jardim of Portugal. Delay only because Brexit means work permit is required.

Manager

Hi Brendan
How is Ireland looking forward to Thursday this week?
Are you convinced H J is building a decent squad or do you feel we need to wait and see?
Apparently, if that Portuguese guy was to become the new manager / coach, he'd be County's first ever foreign boss.
I'm not voting for you know what, don't trust Tories and Labour will make the country worse than it is by increasing taxes and immigration numbers into the country. Immigration is my pet hate in recent times. We need to sort out the NHS, doctors, hospitals etc

To answer your questions.
Ireland generally want the Tories out.
Personal view I am no great fan of Starmer, if I had a vote and there was Proportional Representation I would probably vote Lib/Dem. However I genuinely hate what the Conservative Party have done to the fabric of British society and I hope that they are totally crushed.
My own view on taxation is that nobody wants to pay tax. However tax is the price you pay to have an NHS which works. Tax pays to educate children. Tax fills the potholes in the road. Where I think people object is not in seeing their taxes spend on building a decent society but reject seeing the Tory Government handing out billions to their mates. Think Baroness Moan.
As for County. As I always say the proof of the pudding is in the eating. My one hope pre season would be to see a striker proven at League 2 level signed. As you say we'll have to wait and see.

If it is Nelson Jardim he was still in post as Manager of Maritimo B in Portugal until 30th June.

Jardim has strong Swansea connections as a coach so HJ will know him. Also some experience with other EFL clubs. So Stan's information is certainly credible.

I agree with all of that and on the County point, Jardim looks a credible shout.
As regards immigration I’d only add that you’re much more likely to spot an immigrant working in the NHS than as a patient of it , speaking from the viewpoint of working for 40 years in the service! As a user of it, it was an Iraqi surgeon who performed my heart surgery and a British Asian my cataracts so I’m saying net gain as far as I’m concerned. My own family history shows that on my mother’s side that they fled the Irish potato famine so probably waded through the Pill mud to enter this country. Perhaps we need a bit of compassion.

Reading the posts on this board and the other one thing strikes me. If that which I have heard is correct, and is an if, then the reason for the delay in naming the new coach is that it needs to be cleared that he has a work permit. If that were so then of course he may well have been involved with the signing of players. Indeed it would be both surprising and stupid if he were not.
I should add that until an official announcement is made, we don't know whether my information is correct. I was reading that rather sad declining news source The South Wales Argus. Sad because there was a time when the SWA was a very good local paper. It carried a headline that a new deal with respect to a lease had been agreed with respect to Rodney Parade but had yet to be signed. Nonsense. Until it is signed it is not agreed. Please when reading my remarks don't for one moment believe that I am saying Nelson Jardim will be the new head coach. What I am saying is that I have heard from people I respect this is the case and checking out his details it certainly fits. If I were a betting man I would say there is a 75% chance he will be named but no more than that.

I think it takes about 3 weeks to get a decision on a work visa these days.

According to the Argus, Jardom has been appointed as lead coach and we are still looking for a head coach

A Bertie Mee, Don Howe situation.

The Bertie, Don bit was meant for younger readers, I'm well aware you're almost as long in the tooth as me.
Humour aside, it is beginning to look as though Huw Jenkins is intending to be very hands on. Which is fine when all is going well but can lead to real problems when things are not working out.

If I were a betting man, I'd put a few bob on Leon Britten getting the gig. I hear he's stepped down from his role at Swansea.

Someone on a Swansea forum has said that Toshack is about yo be appointed head coach. I don't know how reliable the source is.

With the new season fast approaching it seems to me that there are only three possibilities with respect to the new 'Head Coach'. The most likely at about 50% is that Nelson Jardim is as I first reported the Head Coach.
At about 45% is that the Head Coach is someone with a Swansea connection with whom Jardim has worked with in the past. Toshack or Britten would fit that bill. Further this scenario would not require taking the avoidable risk of a new man coming in who hadn't chosen the players, hadn't chosen his coaching staff and would be totally undermined from the very beginning. Indeed Huw Jenkins would have totally taken leave of his senses if he were to believe that any quality manager would accept the job on those terms.
As for the third possibility, I suppose there is a 5% chance that Huw Jenkins has completely taken leave of his senses.

Personally I think the pool of qualified individuals who would be prepared to work under an autocratic owner, and with very limited influence on player recruitment, was more baron than HJ originally thought. Increasingly clear why GC left and for us supporters it leaves us with a very interesting season ahead.
Just hope that Huw has got his strategy right, time will tell.

Agree with your assessment.
And to be honest I'm not too bothered about Jardim getting the gig. He knows the way of play, he's getting to know the players, and one assumes he has a good relationship with Jenkins and would be able to voice where further recruitment is required (and be listened to).
Jenkins has gone to the casino, put his chips on the table in a red/black scenario and we're waiting to see where the ball lands when the wheel stops. I remain hopeful that his gamble is going to work. Something drastic needed to happen to kick-start the club, otherwise County would have just stayed in League 2, not improving but potentially struggling year on year to survive.
I'm excited for the forthcoming season. More than I have been since our first season back in the Football League...
