Advice when having work done on house

1
Hi all having boiler fitted next week guy is decent and will turn up on time etc BUT any advice on how to prepare and if it’s worth putting towels/sheets/paper down to protect stuff and any other tips? (Or just leave it as tradesmen will have their own method) Been a nightmare with broken boiler so am just looking forward to it being done now definitely made me think how lucky we are to have the luxury of hot water & heating! (done due diligence on tradesperson and used before so happy with that side of things and it’s legitimate as pay on completion etc albeit things can go wrong and delays can happen)

A plumber would have sheets/towels but the more the merrier. Sometimes how the system is drained from the lowest point can cause issues as the length of hosepipe used might not be as clean as your carpet. There will be a lot of blow torch work in the immediate area of the boiler location, and if you don't have a suitable one, the instalation of an outside flue may cause moderate damage, the repair of which will rest with yourself. So just think about how inside and outside redecoration can be achieved.

Thanks, useful info - thankfully its inside a cupboard so any blemishes will be hidden, as for flue hoping existing one suits but he did say he’d need to do a pipe to outside. Thanks again though as useful tips. Are you a tradey yourself?

Any competent workman will always make good any damage caused during the course of his or her work. It's priced into the job. Discuss it beforehand though, you wouldn't want a cowboy like Banginternet working on your house.

This person has done jobs for us before, he’s a decent chap and I trust him BUT am prepared for small issues and “snags” whoever rectifies them-in honesty given the weather I’d accept a few minor chips to our paintwork or even something more substantial to just get a working boiler-in this weather more than a week (by the time boiler hopefully gets replaced) and intermittent to non existent hot water is miserable, certainly made me appreciate having it.

No never been a tradesman, but did take a week off work 15 years ago when assisting a plumber move the boiler from the bottom of the house, to attic, and run the gas pipe up. Did enjoy it though DIY has never been my thing.
