Supporting local businesses'
1Although I’ve professed a liking for Wetherspoons I do try to spread the joy around by using local business/café’s etc. not trying to be self-righteous and get that sometimes independents can be pricier but I think as we come out of Covid we all ought to be doing our best to use local retailers/suppliers/eateries – not knocking chains and they employ a lot of people (and some independents are not as perfect as they make out) but whether butcher, baker or proverbial candlestick maker – next time you need something stop and think if there is a local independent you can get that from even in the retail desert that is Newport there are some hidden gems – wider area there are even more places – tbh for [say] books I email orders to a bookshop down the road, etc yes sometimes it cost a bit more but you do get a smug feeling knowing you’re helping to keep high streets alive and that good people are getting the money rather than faceless shareholders…
