People who don't get vaccinated are putting their own lives in greater jeopardy. That's their right. Unfortunately they are also putting the lives of everyone else at risk. And that they don't have the right to do.

Hang them? No.

Curtail their rights in the short term on the basis that they are selfish little f@ckers? Yes.

My remark was a little flippant and I apologise to the op for making it, I need to calm. The fans are being flamed in the media and I would rather people (including myself) to bring some water to it without being told. Scenario: an-unvaxxinated single man who is also your neighbour is now barred from buying food in a shop, what do you do? He is a vulnerable man. Would you take the risk to help him??

My point is if my colleagues and myself can wear a mask for 12 hour shifts I'm sure someone can wear one for 10-20 minutes shopping

My mum went to the spar shop and has come back with what I thought was an intersting story. There are a lot of 'customers' who are now becoming aggressive towards, and personally abusive towards the staff for not enforcing the guidelines. They don"t deserve it, I can't stand bullies. Sorry to hear your personal story mate

So sad to hear that. I know I keep repeating myself, but the only answer is for everyone to wear one in shops. I believe they can only have a minimal benefit, but we shouldn't ignore the psychological comforting benefit they can have for many of the more vulnerable either.

Hi mate, I do comply to mask wearing in shops as I feel for the workers in shops. It's not something that get's mentioned much. The more anger in the population, they get the brunt of it. Have a good day mate :bounce:

Thanks for that. Have utmost sympathy for most shop workers also. Although those workers who don't wear masks themselves are not helping the situation.

I wonder if the two are interlinked? The bloody virus seems to have a strategy and a mind of its own. If it carries on, we will see hospitals overwhelmed because of the sheer numbers of cases even if the severity of the illness for some is not the same as previously seen.

Any experts in Virology out there who can answer this one? Does the virus react to the vaccine fight against it or is it just a chance mutation?

Anyway, if what we see with this virus now does not convince those who can to get vaccinated, then there really is a case for mandatory vaccines. My prediction is that sometime in February (if it’s not too late) the case for mandatory vaccines will be overwhelming. If not, prohibitive selection against those who choose not to get vaccinated will probably happen. It’s not the British way but because of the few, we may be forced to take this action.

I just wish players would set an example.
I've read that there is a link between the very high transmissibility of Omicron and its lower ability to cause serious illness. It seems that the same mutation that speeds up infection also reduces the efficiency of the virus as a lung infector.

It seems that Omicron effects the upper respiratory tract rather than lower in the lung like Delta. As such if you have had Delta then the symptoms are less but not if you haven't had COVID before. The problem is NHS staff being off sick with Omicron, rather than the number in hospital as far as I can work out.

Yes I can report we are being asked to test before every shift now so more tests more positive results and having to stay home until you have a PCR test

Thanks. Hopefully that will be true in future years. It seems that in its current form the virus seeks to transmit to as many people as possible. If the link is true then we may see the virus become less and less dangerous as it mutates and spreads in future years. Then, we may be able to treat it as we do the flu or a very heavy cold. Fingers crossed.

However, we are not at that stage yet and need to treat the virus with respect and take general precautions as has been stated on here many times.

I have also read the report that another poster stated that the problem we have now is that so many NHS staff in critical care areas will be off because they have symptoms and there will then be fewer staff to treat the virus as these staff need to self isolate. The irony of it all is that I have seen the news reports that the very people who are in the majority in ITU etc are the people that haven’t been vaccinated. We seem to be in a critical phase right now.

I see things much the same way. Some interesting preliminary stats I have just read suggest only a 40% less chance of hospitalisation with the covid variant. Disappointing if true.
Wales only-- week ending 17th Dec. Cases for 20-29 years old more than doubled. 30-39 years old up more than a third, yet those in their 60s and 70s more than halved.

But infections...if we compare to flu? Are more or less.

Glad the Port game went ahead today, proves we're doing it right(apart from party's in Covid times).

I hope the Welsh government don't overreact and put our season in jeopardy.
Accept that no proof of the omicron being as deadly as it's previous variants'. 'Successful' variants will naturally become more transmissible but less deadly. Hopefully that proves to be the case.
I do challenge any idea that Covid deaths are anywhere near less than Winter flu though. As best as I can tell 'Flu has killed between 10.000 and 25.000 in the worst years.
Over a 2 year period therefore those figures are less than a third of Covid deaths. Useless things improve significantly the UK at it's current trajectory is looking at approx. another 70.000 in the next year.
Impossible to compare case numbers as testing for 'flu is nowhere near as frequently undertaken as for Covid.
Hope the Welsh government reacts proportionately to the situation as it evolves even if that does mean curtailing the football season.
Well, totally disagree with those figures. In fact the South African Scientist who discovered Omricon totally disagrees with those figures. (BBC, Irish Times Various,) says it's milder than Trump flu.

But if you're a 'Cardiff" based thinker. Then...shut it down...
