Seberry Not Wanted

Seberry told by Jardim at the start of the season he was no longer wanted. Nobody came in for him. The lad is gutted.

That would seem a very rash judgement, in hindsight, looking at how many players are now unavailable. I thought he was starting to look like quite a useful player before getting injured.

If that is true why not just release him? I'm sure he could find a gig back home in Ireland. But agree with excessbee I thought he was doing okay last season before the injury...

Presumably because financially we'd have to pay up his contract (or a proportion of it).
At this point in the injury crisis, the only thing crazier than releasing him would be keeping him and not using him. Surely he gets a chance on Tuesday night, if only so we can rest Baker, Evans and Morris ahead of next Saturday.

It annoys me that managers always seem to burn their bridges with players in this way. We’re a long way from the transfer window and we’re already in a selection crisis. He’s got 1 year on his contract, he’s not rated, that’s fine, no one’s come in for him, why freeze him out when we’re so short of options?
The worst instance of h this that I can remember was in Holdsworth’s first season. He let a player go (was it Phil Walsh?) only to hurriedly bring him back for a one off game as we were short at the back!
Was it against Bath City?

That is p*ss poor man management. Pay him off and let him go. It's only fair to the lad.
I saw him looking forlorn in John Frost Square 30 minutes before the Port Vale game and put 2 and 2 together.
He was raw last season but improved over a few games.

Jenkins may well have created a lot more cases like Seberry by bringing in untried players on two season contracts. I don't like players being treated like this, especially one who suffered a broken leg in the club's service. Not to mention the wages budget being wasted.

This has been my feeling also.
Unless you have someone on your staff who’s an excellent judge of talent and you’ve got a very good scouting network, then you’re bound to unearth a few duds.
I’ve mentioned him once already, but it’s a pity we can’t employ Deano’s scatter gun approach at this level. Not good enough? On yer bike!! Sign 3 more players. Rinse and repeat.

Would that be Nelson’s decision or that of the Owner, my money is on the latter.PJBuchanan wrote:Seberry told by Jardim at the start of the season he was no longer wanted. Nobody came in for him. The lad is gutted.

Absolutely awful! What a way to treat I thought was a raw but very promising young player! Disgusting if true.Taunton iron cider wrote:Would that be Nelson’s decision or that of the Owner, my money is on the latter.PJBuchanan wrote:Seberry told by Jardim at the start of the season he was no longer wanted. His contract is going to be paid to him anyway if he's sitting around and not getting an opportunity while running down his contract.
I agree utilising him on Tuesday would be sensible but I wouldn't rest Baker and Evans because if you're going to sort out the defensive crisis that involves the defenders in crisis playing...

Listening to Nelson’s interview today, he was asked a direct question by Chris Kirwan about Seberry. Whilst looking decidedly uncomfortable, he seemed to infer that the severity of the break had also had a mental effect in perhaps reducing the commitment for hard tackling. There was little doubt that as things stand he prefers Sanka in the defensive role.
Interview is below.

I thought what he said was sensible enough and I didn’t think he threw the lad under a bus but I agree that atm he obviously prefers Sanca.
I hope he’s still open to Seberry making a comeback because I thought the lad was very promising.

Incidentally when we were 2 down today and obviously losing, I hoped he’d give Sanca and Seberry the last ten minutes, it’d probably do them the world of good.

As Nelson seems to have little obvious intent on using Seberry, it does beg the question as to why he was even on the bench.
