The things you think you know.
Wed Aug 07, 2024 9:36 am
The days grow shorter in the winter and grow longer in the summer.
Not true. Winter begins in December and runs through to February. On December 21st the days start getting longer. Meanwhile the days start getting shorter on June 21st.
The sun sets in the west. Only true twice a year approximately March 21st and September 21st. In summer it sets in the northwest and in winter the southwest.
Mozart was an Austrian and Hitler a German. Quite the reverse.
You see you are told things and because the fit with your beliefs, you believe them. And once you believe something, notwithstanding there is no evidence for that belief, you will carry on believing.
Huw Jenkings and the board of directors of Mansfield Town know how much Will Evans was transferred for. The with add on £200,000 figure is mere speculation. We don't know and I doubt we ever will.

It looks like Mansfield have got an absolute bargain and it looks like Jenkins may have recouped some of his initial investment. At least we can now put a £125k price on possible relegation as we are left with strikers who can’t muster 15 goals a season between them.
On a positive note, Jenkins is keeping all options open for this season’s outcome as it seems the RP lease remains outstanding.

Morning Dave,
You may well be right. What I would add is this. The members of the Trust gifted Huw Jenkins our club. Reading comments on here and certainly on the other board it seems to me that many posters are failing to realise that Newport County is now a private limited company owned by Huw Jenkins. It's his club, we have no say in how it is run, or on what decisions are made
Whatever figure Will Evans was sold for, if Huw Jenkins is happy with it, that is the end of the matter. We are customers now and for good or ill we need to get used to it.

I understand your point Stan. But the reality is that those that bought Community shares to buy the club from Uncle Les, then allowed a cabal of incompetents to run things into the ground. Jenkins is an improvement in what we had at the start of last season, whatever his faults.
The hope is that the experiment with lowering the average age of the squad will pay off and put County on a better financial footing long term. And other investors come in and take the club onwards and upwards. The fans will never get control of the club again unless it goes bust again. And if that happens then I won't invest again on the experience from the previous Trust model...

Again I don't disagree with the points Wattsville is making. For the sake of clarity, I'm not being critical of Huw Jenkins. The point I'm trying to make is that everything comes at a cost. The cost of the way our club was mismanaged, combined let's be honest, with our failure to hold to account Messrs, Ward, Foxall, Johnson et al, is that the club is no longer ours.

All of the above is true, namely it’s all out of our hands and we’ve had no news about the lease. It’s probably also likely that we‘ll never know how much Mansfield paid for Will though it doesn’t much matter as it’s Mr Jenkins‘s cash - not ours! In any case, as a businessman he’d be unlikely to let you know how much cash he has in his pocket. It could be but a few jingling coppers or a wad thick enough to choke a horse. There is of course something else we don’t know and that’s how many goals Will would have contributed this year if he’d stayed.
I know we’re all concerned about a number of matters but we’re rather in the position of having been coaxed to take a ride on a rollercoaster by somebody we only slightly know and the safety of such construction we are unable to gauge. We bought the ticket and sat down and the ride has started, I suppose we can scream occasionally or enjoy the ride, that’s all that’s left to us, we can’t jump off!
For those who think we may have to pick up the pieces again at some future juncture, it will be a salutary lesson in requiring transparency from their officers in any new club structure and not make the same mistake again. For those having buyer remorse, I’m afraid that’s tough you shouldn’t have “ mistaken paradise for that home across the road “.

Totally agree with Highandwide. Still the waiting is nearly over. Weird in a way. Three days to go and no real excitement at the start of a new season. My own view, and I think one shared by many, is that I just don't see where the goals are coming from. And like everyone else I hope I'm wrong.
One thing I certainly was wrong about was that Will Evans transfer would entail a cash plus player deal and that an out and out forward would be joining. Have to say I'm far less confident about the season than I was a fortnight ago.

I think the goals are likely to come from the wingers in the front three, the likes of Spellman, Greaves, Kamwa and possibly Rai and (hopefully) Wood. I also suspect some of the midfielders will score too. The central strikers in the forward three don't appear to have the look of goals, but we know CBR will be a nuisance (and possibly get high single figure goals) and I suspect Kargbo could be a nuisance if he uses his attributes correctly. I'm not sure what to expect of Jephcott but I do wonder where he fits into the formation.
But none of us know. It's partly exciting and partly scary. But it's unlikely to be boring fare this season...
