A little confused

As you all know I read Allthingscounty but won't join as I don't want to give Bangit et al the opportunity to spread his/their bile there.

There seems to me to be confusion over how Huw Jenkins took control of our club. Many believing that he bought Newport County, presumably for the princely sum of £500,000.

He did not. Had the Trust sold Newport County for £500K then those of us who own shares in the Trust would have been entitled to share out all that lovely cash. As it happens I didn't get a penny and neither did anyone else.

The Trust gifted the ownership of Newport County to Huw Jenkins. It may be that he cleared debts. It may be he really did invest in his business £500,000. That would be his decision and until or unless an AGM of Newport County is held and shareholders in what is still Newport AFC Limited can ask, we won't know. But be clear to take control of our club didn't cost Huw Jenkins a brass farthing.

And again to be clear I make no criticism of Huw Jenkins. If he is to be judged it's on how the club progresses not on what has happened in the past. That judgement for good or ill starts on Saturday.

I don't know the 'ins and outs' of the transfer of shares to Uncle Huw. Only the Trust directors at the time can know that. I do, however, believe that the Trust have a duty to share all of the details of the transfer with its members and those of us who bought community shares. No legal duty, maybe, but a moral one and one that would seal cohesion between the fans and the club for the future.

Lets be honest, we all know that the fans will be called upon to 'save' the club again at some point. Build the bridges now.

I agree with that premise Stan. I suspect the club was gifted to HJ in return for reducing debts by some £500k. Our very fortuitous cup run has replaced that £500k and we are now in the position that HJ' s investment has been covered.
My concern is that if the new County Experiment flounders the HJ could simply shrug his shoulders and walk away.
I stress above is based upon pure guesswork on my part and could be completely wrong but the though has been nagging at me for a while now.
