On another thread,I mentioned Perkins and Donovan,two players on the books for at least a season who never played a first team game.Another one was Carl Hillberg who was around for a few years in the early 70's.He had a profile in the programme at least once in the 'One to watch' section.I remember him playing preseason friendlies and regularly for the reserves.My last memory of him was 73 or 74.I had seen in the programme that County had a third team in the Gwent League and were playing away to Alcan in Rogie so a couple of us went along.Carl was playing that day but,as it was County thirds,he was probably no longer one to watch but one on his way out.Thinking about that,it seems odd that County would bother putting a side out in such a low standard of football.Does anyone remember him,a slightly built winger,and where did he end up.Can any other anoraks remember players like him who were on the scene for at least a season but never played a first team game.
