Myself and the usual 1912 Exiles podcast are looking to record soon on the topic of our first County memory and our favourite County memories.

We'd love to share a few stories of others' given the diversity of fan here on the forums. Got some old Somerton Park stories? Harken back to the Spytty wind-tunnel Shed days? Wembley? Weston Super Mare away?

When Colin Addison was our manager,I was working as a fuel tanker driver for Collingbourne Fuels which were operating out of Lilleshhall Street , Jonathon Collingbourne , the grandson of our owner who was also a keen County Fan like myself and ,a future County Director was about 10 years old. ---Mr Collingbourne his grandfather agreed to sponsor a match at Somerton Park and also to help County during one of their financially tough days. Mr Jack Collingbourne, Jonathon, and myself were invited to join Colin Addison and others in the Directors Box for the game. A hot air balloon was launched from the centre circle and a good game was witnessed by us all I have often looked through County literature ie programmes etc in an effort to locate which game it was. I have heard that it was the first sponsored game at Somerton Park but I dont know, I would be interested to know , if there is anyone who can enlighten me. My first County memory was watching County play Millwall in approx 64/65. My dad took me over and it was a 2-2 draw with Alex Stepney in goal for Millwall.

I also remember at about the same time one of the first black players in the league - Albert Johannson a winger who played against us for Leeds. He was good if I remember.

In Somerton Park days I can remember that letters of the alphabet were hung on the low wire fencing around the outside of the greyhound track and halftime scores would be hung on each letter to signify the halftime scores ie A 1-2 B 0-1 etc, I can still remember a man in a white coat pushing a handcart and calling out "ANY COCKLES " as he pushed his loaded hand cart around the track , County match programmes were always well produced and the County line up I remember well was
Pope, Staples Hayward, Stroud Wilcox Newall,Birch Beattie Parker Shergold Moore.
My earliest match was against Aldershot when George Roffi scored four goals when County hammered Aldershot 7-0 though Roffi after scoring those goals all with his head I think----, never played many more games due to illness..

My brothers and I lived way out in the country as Dad , a farmers son, worked on a number of different farms around Monmouthshire as he tried to get better wages for his family, My three brothers and I didn't get to see our team very often, Our relations Uncle Charlie Griffiths, and Aunty Betty from Portskewett Street were regular fans followed County home and away used to tell us about the big games when County played Portsmouth at Fratton park for example, and of course Johnny Rowlands , who had the Chip shop by the Corparation Hotel, I am 82 now and it was a regular walk down Corperation Road from the "Bus Pullin" by the indoor market and back after the game to get our bus home to Betttws Newydd, near Usk and Llandegveth, near Caerleon to name just two out of town villages were we lived Great Days and always enjoyable There used to be "soccer special" buses running from the bridge but our pocket money didn't cover the costs. This is going to be endless and what a great thread to start.
The night at Hereford when we won 3-2 was wonderful and surreal in parts. I love watching the video again and watching Flynn's words to the penalty taker. The gesticulation that the player gave which should have been punished ; the way the game progressed and Minsull's two headed goals; Wilmott's scremer;the pub beforehand and the police escort; I knew we could go up after this.

Bit younger than most on here I think, but my first County game was a friendly at Chepstow Town against Carmarthen. 2007ish I think. Followed the clubs results for years beforehand, as I had a good mate who supported County. But playing or watching football with other family members clubs meant I never really got to see County in action.

I remember there seemed to be a bit of a buzz because we'd signed ex-Jamaican international Paul Hall. Don't think he played, but was about talking to fans.

I started watching the County in 1962. My first match was a 2-2 draw with Aldershot. The smell of cigars and cigarettes was my first memory. Thrilling game. We were ahead and behind before ending with a draw. I took a shine to Ralph Hunt, one of our best strikers at the time (sadly killed in a car crash after being transferred to Chesterfield), and goalkeeper Len Weare.

A few years later I was invited into the dressing room at Somerton Park before an evening game. I was really looking forward to meeting my hero Len Weare. Unfortunately he wasn't there as he had been injured. There was no reserve keeper available either so centre half Alan Woods had to play in goal. We lost.

Also in the 60s I remember our thrilling 3-2 win over first division Sheffield Wednesday, twice coming from behind.

I saw the County draw 1-1 with Southampton at the Dell, but I didn't see the replay despite being in the ground before kick off. I was at the railway end with my best mate at the time. The daft so and so decided to climb the corrugated steel fencing to get a better view. He slipped and badly cut open his hand. I had to take him to hospital so we both missed the game.
