Where the Leeds manager slipped up was in naming four very young academy lads on the bench. Reading between the lines, the message was that he expected the starting XI to run up a decent lead, then he'd let the kids have a turn. This led the starting XI to believe their own publicity, etc etc
They seem to have acquired a new handle, Ten-Man Leeds. It's like Plucky Belgium.
Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
47Having seen the Spurs side today (missing Lloris and Eriksen through illness, Alderweireld through injury and having Aurier go off injured late on) I expect them to start something like the following XI next week:
Vorm;
Trippier, Vertonghen, Foyth, Walker-Peters;
Wanyama, Dembele;
Lamela; Eriksen; Sissoko
Llorente
They might even start Gazzaniga in goal, who has plenty of L1 experience with Gillingham and a bit of Prem time with Southampton but has only had one game for Spurs this season.
As others have said, most of their players would walk into the County team, and indeed most Championship sides. Not sure about Foyth and Walker-Peters' quality, but they played against AFC Wimbledon so Pochettino thinks they're good enough. They might switch Dier, Alli or Kane in but probably won't risk them, though they're not massively deep in that position and Wanyama needs games (we can stand off him and wait for him to give it back to us ). Hoping Alderweireld remains out tbh, not sure when he's meant to be back.

Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
48I would rest Pipe, Dolan, Labadie and Nouble(Must not play and risk getting booked). We have enough in the squad to see off Morecambe. It gives Reid and Sheehan game time. Tower and new midfielder can play.
Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
49You play the strongest team against Morecambe.
Nobody gets rested unless its genuine.

Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
50If fit labadie in for sheehan would be my only change. Must win this game.
Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
52There's speculation Alderweireld might return against us, but would you risk him coming back from a longish injury on a less than perfect surface? I'd never heard of Foyth, but he's an Argentine U20 international and Walker-Peters helped England win the U20 World Cup.SJG99 wrote:Having seen the Spurs side today (missing Lloris and Eriksen through illness, Alderweireld through injury and having Aurier go off injured late on) I expect them to start something like the following XI next week:

Aurier looks a relatively weak link, tends to hesitate in good positions, and he's an Africa Cup of Nations winner!
Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
53Just a thought.
Whichever team Spurs put out, they will in all likelihood win with ease. We are already assured the gate receipts and TV money. As the League is our priority perhaps we ought to consider resting our better players against Spurs and not Morecambe?

Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
54Agree, the player Aurier mentioned above played well before going off recently and there will be no weaknesses in their side, odds are we’ll be beaten comfortably just like 57 years ago sadly . Morecambe is our bread and butter.Stan A. Einstein wrote:Just a thought.

Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
55Us winning would probably need them to make at least one terrible mistake and that won't be influenced by who's in our side.
Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
5618/1 with the bookies, 15/2 the draw. Long odds in a 2 horse race but Spurs could still do a Devon Loch.
Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
57Assuming that Spurs are an above average Premier League team and this is just for fun.Amberexile wrote:18/1 with the bookies, 15/2 the draw. Long odds in a 2 horse race but Spurs could still do a Devon Loch.
In the Premier League that equates over a season to 2 wins and 5 draws and 31 defeats. As Spurs are above average say 3 wins 7 draws and 28 defeats. 16 points from a Premier League season.
Can't help but feel if Spurs do a Devon Loch it will mean we lose 5-1. But stranger things have happened. Just.
Re: Should we rest players for Morecambe game?
58Just for fun, if you think a Spurs Devon Loch equals a 5-1 victory for them. What would you expect the score to be if Spurs put in an average performance?Stan A. 60Don't forget that Paul Hayes scored twice against Spurs last season so maybe he should start this year's fixture?
