My idea for a new ground would be to build a community stadium,
We could get funding just like other teams have done
The venue ?
Well the best place for all concerned would be on the cabbage patch,
Knock down the north terrace and have joint changing rooms under a new stand which by the way has a current planning consent just needs to be tweaked
Which serves the rugby pitch and the new pitch,
A new stadium would easily fit into the old cabbage patch
Build a new block under the the stand to accommodate the squash club
Turn the old RP rugby pitch into 3-4 G and we have a new pitch and stadium they have their old stadium back,
Plenty of scope to knock down the old condemned Hazell terrace, redevelop all of the site
We put in funding and end up with the perfect scenario
Any thought
Any downside
Any objections
Needs someone to put it all together,
We have some money
We would get plenty of community funding

17How much do you think that would cost?PMG wrote:My idea for a new ground would be to build a community stadium,

20 odd years ago the calculation was £1m per 1000 capacity, so at a guess that we wouldn't be happy unless we had an 8,000 capacity, and therefore we need £8m at a minimum.
We won't be getting that out of the City Council, FAW, FL for sure
Re: GROUND SHARING
18We keep seeing this cost of £1million per 1,000 seats. But the biggest cost of building is the cost of land. Which of course comes entirely out of the equation.County-at-the-races wrote:How much do you think that would cost?PMG wrote:My idea for a new ground would be to build a community stadium,

Re: GROUND SHARING
19Looking at the aerial view on Google Maps, you could just about get two pitches on the site end-to-end, but there'd be next to no room for any spectator accommodation either side of the one on the cabbage patch. The pitch surrounds would have to go up to squash courts.PMG wrote: A new stadium would easily fit into the old cabbage patch

Re: GROUND SHARING
21Nowhere near. It's pretty much exactly northwest/southeast and the only way you can get any spectator accommodation on the Rodney Road side deeper than the current terrace is because there's that kink in the road.
Re: GROUND SHARING
22It would be a fantastic project
Main stands behind goals/posts
Viewed from above imo it's totally feasible.
Architects dream project
What an opportunity to put Newport on the map
Funding?,err, well, um, oh

Re: GROUND SHARING
23Imagine the Google image is interactive and you can drag the elements around. You could drag the Bisley up towards the main entrance and it would just about fit, with the front butting up onto the cabbage patch pitch.or maybe taking a small slice off it. But drag the Hazell Stand up on the other side and it covers Rodney Road.
Re: GROUND SHARING
27It would easily fit access to the stadium off the road adjacent to the squash club
That would go and be relocated,
Easily enough room for stands at both ends and terracing along the length of the pitch,
There are lots of funding streams available also with the councils help and the dragons it could be a three way venture with the dragons as we would have better access to funds through the premier league football foundation etc etc
The site is there
There is planning for a big stand at the north end already to go with a bit of tweaking
Where are the downsides ?

Re: GROUND SHARING
28Yes, I see. The cabbage patch is too narrow for a pitch and would have to be widened. The only places available for building substantial new stands would be behind the goals on a north/south layout and that wouldn't be popular.George Street-Bridge wrote:Nowhere near. Back to Newport Stadium and rehouse the athletics elsewhere. They need a track but they don't need a football stadium and it would be relatively cheap to rehouse them rather than build a stadium from scratch. We can then develop what is a very large site unimpeded by having to leave views of all the track from the stand.
Re: GROUND SHARING
29You could just about build something like Marine's ground on the cabbage patch, but that would be all.
Re: GROUND SHARING
30If you look on google earth
You can easily fit a new stadium on there
How much room do you think you need ?
The rugby pitch is very long with space behind each goal line it’s huge
I guess if you don’t think it’s a good idea then you can come up with as many negatives as you like
The question is if it fits is it a good idea or not
