Right from the start they made us work very hard just to get to the halfway line in possession of the ball. Other teams have retreated and defended in their own half. Townsend was not able to roll the ball to a defender in space, that got Dolan in a complete muddle. I thought their plan might be run themselves into the ground and use all five subs to replace tired legs, but fair play they did it the traditional way and thoroughly deserved a point.
Agree with all that. They came at us from the start and made us look very ordinary indeed. Only at the death did we really trouble them and even then they came back to nearly snatch a winner at the end. Only Townsend really did his job tonight, the outfield players were abysmal I thought, thank goodness for their keeper’s fumble, though after that we should have been testing him regularly. So disappointing when our normally stand out players can’t make a simple pass but hopefully we’ll improve on that awful outing.
Some have suggested starting with Willmott and Ellison but I feel they’d be more effective used as we have recently ie as impact subs. Very disappointed with Podge recently, he’s been poor.

It was totally clueless.
Not 1 stand out performance.
Only robbie and the keeper came out of that dross performance with any credit.
Charlie & OB were a disgrace knocking the Ref who had an outstanding game tonight.
Walsall by a mile the better side.
We cannot play that poorly again this season.
Thanks to a mare from their keeper we get a point.
We are top but nothing to rejoice in that 97 minutes at all.

Townsend 6 Faultless
Cooper 5 No impression
Mickey 5 Awful by his standards
Matty 5 Awful first half
Haynes 5 Nothing to boast about
Josh 6 well below Saturday but kept at it.
Twine 6 at least had a few pops at the target.but what a miss
Proctor 4 No impression
Amond 4 Did nothing all night
Shephard 5 Poor by his standards
Labs 6 Just so so.

Abrahams 4 Did nothing
Robbie 7 MOM as every centre was spot on
Devitt 4 Did nothing

Kevin Not on long enough for a score.

MOM in reality The Ref

Seriously Charlie & OB are getting worse every game.
No ideahow to complain but they were a joke tonight.
A bit harsh on the defence I thought Labs lost the runner for their goal and apart from a couple of errors which we recovered from did they look like scoring? I think Walsall did a job on us, my concern is that we are giving the forwards scraps - not a Willmott fan but until he came on they had nothing to work with but I wish he would beat a man on the outside and cross rather than cut inside all the time. Shepherd not playing as he did before injury both him and Haynes giving no real width and certainly no final delivery. Sheehan I thought had better distribution but needs to do it where it is going to hurt opponents,
Disappointing but unrealistic to expect us to roll over every team that visits, when top teams will spend time working out their game plan against us - Walsall did well and we are still top.

Thought Walsall were the more robust team, winning most of the aeriel duels and 50/50 balls.
Is the pitch now starting to affect our game at home?
With 4 of the next 5 league games away from home it will certainly test our promotion credentials.
Could we even find ourselves playing in front of supporters?

Poor first half, improved second. Willmott made a difference. Pitch condition is a concern considering not much rugby has been played on it, we've still got 16 home games to go.
Faerun exile, that sums it up perfectly.

On one run in the second half from Sheehan the ball was bobbling all over the place.

I think Willmott and Ellison may well be second half sub sort of players but need at least 25 minutes at the end of games. Robbie created three openings. Put him on the right wing and he causes problems.
