Saturday 26th September.
Bolton Wanderers v Newport County.
Competitive matches between both clubs over the decades was zero as Bolton were continually competing in the upper two tiers of English football bar two seasons in the early 1970's. After those two seasons, they had ten successive seasons back in the top two tiers. They were relegated to Division Three at the conclusion of 1982 / 1983. From the following season 1983 / 1984, County and Bolton competed in the same division for five successive seasons, ten league games in total.
Those ten games are the only competitive matches both clubs have competed against each other.

The one occasion both managers have previously met as opposing managers was County's penultimate game of 2017 / 2018 when Chesterfield beat County 1-0 at The Proact Stadium with the games only goal coming from Kristian Dennis during the second half. Chesterfield were already relegated to the National League for 2018 / 2019 prior to this rearranged game after the initial one was postponed due to snow.
Re: Grandstand: Bolton v Exiles
3I remember being at Bolton in 1983. I always thought that John Lewis scored the winner. Anyway it was a great game. Hope tomorrow's game will be as good, and we get the 3 points.
Re: Grandstand: Bolton v Exiles
4I went to Bolton as part of my stag weekend.
Bolton 3 Port Vale 0.
In hindsight that was a portent of the doom ahead.
